President's Message - January 2009

Hello everyone. As I write this, we are in the middle of the holidays, but by the time you read this, I hope you had a Merry Christmas. I REALLY hope everyone was done picking corn before the holidays!

Once again it's time to think about the annual meeting. Collect your thoughts about the direction of your organization and plan on attending the meeting. This year we will try something new at the meeting by including juniors in the activities. Since this is the first year, we'll be experimenting with the best format, but just like when we planned the national convention, whatever happens is exactly like we wanted it to happen (unless it's really bad). Our plans are to have the juniors attend the meeting with the adults in the morning and cover the agenda items that involve the juniors (like Share-A-Heifer, Princess committee, and Junior Report). Then, after lunch, we will have separate activities and games for the juniors while the adults finish up any business the association has.

One experiment we will try to encourage junior participation in is a DAIRY PROJECT DISPLAY CONTEST. Any junior that wants to participate in the display contest should make a display (poster or otherwise) of their dairy project from the last year. These displays will be available for the adults to look at during lunch, then after lunch the junior would give a brief presentation (1-2 minutes) introducing themselves and explaining their project. After the presentations, the adults will vote on the best presentation and display with the winner receiving a $25 cash prize sponsored by me.
