You are invited to help draft policy for Iowa State Dairy Association (ISDA). This year we are holding four regional Policy Drafting Meetings in an effort to reach more members. Please mark your calendar for one of the following meetings:
- Iowa’s Dairy Center Robotics Conference Room, Calmar, on October 30th from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. will feature guest speaker Melissa O’Rourke from the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. She will be speaking about legal issues related to farm employment.
- Hansen Agriculture Learning Center, Ames, on November 3rd from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. will feature guest speaker Doug Bear of the Iowa Beef Industry Council. He will be speaking about the beef checkoff and quality assurance programs.
- Country Junction Restaurant, Dyersville, on November 17th from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Doug Bear will also be speaking at this meeting.
- ISU Sioux County Extension office, Orange City, on November 19th from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. will feature speaker Chris Hoeger, Vice President of ISDA.
Lunch will be provided at all meetings.
Attendees will review current policy and proposed resolutions and draft new resolutions. This is an important meeting for you to share opinions and review ISDA policy. The 2016 legislative session starts in early January and it is essential for Iowa’s dairy industry to come together to draft resolutions that will drive the association’s initiatives in the year to come. As you know there are several issues facing dairy farmers today and this is a chance for your voice to be heard.
You may review current ISDA policy prior to the meeting by visiting the ISDA website www.iowadairy.org and clicking on the link to the 2015 ISDA Policy.
After this meeting, proposed resolutions will be sent to ISDA Annual Meeting Delegates for review. Final voting on resolutions will take place at ISDA’s annual meeting in Waverly held on January 8. If you are unable to attend the policy drafting meeting but would still like to submit policy comments, you may mail or email them to Sue Ann Claudon. All policy comments must be received by Wednesday, November 25, 2015.
In order to get an accurate count for lunch and for meeting handouts, please call or email me your RSVP. Make sure to indicate which meeting you will be attending. Feel free to contact me with any questions regarding this meeting or the ISDA policy process. We look forward to seeing you!
